Part 3: A Day Between Mountains, Murals, and Memories

Some days unfold with a rhythm you couldn’t plan if you tried. One of my favorite days in Medellín began with a climb up Cerro de las Tres Cruces, a steep but rewarding trail that overlooks the city. The morning light brushed over the rooftops, and the air carried that mix of urban pulse and mountain calm that makes Medellín so unique.

After the hike, spontaneity took over. Along with Leo2 and Acso, we stumbled upon a spot in the sewer system of Belén Las Mercedes — an unlikely but surprisingly inspiring canvas. The water level was low that day, exposing clean, untouched walls that seemed to invite color. We unpacked our paints and began creating, guided by the echo of dripping water and the hum of the city above us.

Time, though, was not on my side. I had to move fast— because later that afternoon I was scheduled to give a talk at the Museo de Antioquia about my journey from professional athlete to artist. The contrast between painting underground and speaking in one of Medellín’s most respected cultural spaces couldn’t have been sharper, yet somehow it made perfect sense.

That day wasn’t just about art or movement; it was about connection. Climbing, painting, and sharing stories with locals reminded me that creativity often lives in the spaces between — between work and play, between the street and the museum, between the past and what’s still to come.
